All I can say is, He was a Calm, Cool, Cat. Pleasure to meet and work for him.

Rest easy dear friend. We love you and will miss you forever.

Peggy and I extend our deepest condolences. Mike was always a true friend and a calming influence on everyone he encountered. Mike was a great paramedic and firefighter and a mentor to many. I have never heard anyone utter a negative comment about Mike. He was respected by all who knew him I was honored to know him.

Chief McCoy was a great BC to work for and always brightened up everyone's day at the fire station!   What a wonderful man; a caring professional dedicated to service,  and a bright, shining example of how to treat others.  I am grateful to have known him.

Thankyou for making me part of your family when I moved to California. I have the happiest memories of every moment we shared together, and it was a so awesome hanging out with you on my return trips with Andrew. 

We're going to miss you so much, but I'm sure you'll join us in spirit for beverages on our future vacations.

We are so very lucky and blessed to have you as part of our lives.

A man couldn't ask for a better supervisor or a man to emulate in life. You will be missed but your impact on the lives of so many others will be felt for many years to come.

Michael was my neighbor for the last five years.  He was always kind and  helpful to me.  He always had a warm greeting and a smile on his face.  May he rest in peace.

Chief McCoy took a genuine interest in the well being of his firefighters. Each time we crossed paths he asked with sincerity how my wife and children were doing, even remembering them by name. He treated us with mutual respect and kindness, regardless of rank or time on the job. He made an everlasting impression on those around him.

The West End had a great BC during your time with us. You always had a great story and a personal interest in us. We all enjoyed your laid back leadership. Peace be with you and your family

Mike was a great guy.  He was liked and respected by all that knew him.  His mild mannered way and easy smile gave way to the confident and gentle man that was Mike.  I was privileged to have worked for and with him throughout much of my fire service career.  One of the early days, We were responding in the medic van to a traffic collision with injuries.  Mike said," I hope the injuries are not too bad because I can't stand the sight of blood."  Yeah, that was MIke's humor... still makes me laugh.

Mike was a very nice man and popular with his firefighters and peers.  He always had a smile on his face.  He had a true love in his heart for his family which he spoke so proudly about.  He was Mr. Nice Guy.  May God bless his family and ease the pain for the loss of their loved one.

Mike was like a Father to my son Aron.  He helped me through the most difficult time when Aron took his life.  He just was the best guy ever to everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him.  He will be so greatly missed by sooooo many people.

I have spent the past several days lamenting at the loss of one of my mentors.

A true Firefighter's Fireman. A man I so wanted to emulate; his love, patience, caring, and understanding.

We will all miss him dearly, but need only say his name and a smile will come to life, a good story will come to mind, and what I call a "warm-fuzzy will surround you.

I smile now, knowing the young Firefighter that will carry his values, the Explorer Scout that learned of our Brotherhood, and finally the Old Guy like me that is a better man because of knowing him.

I wonder if they have ambulances in heaven, just to drive for fun? If so, McCoy and Madlock are the Mother, Jugs, and Speed in Paradise. 

My love and prayers to your family. I hope to be good enough to ride with you again one day.

I got to know a great man, one of the best BCs who cared about his people.

Mike was a kind soul, who cared about people and had the respect of everyone he worked with.  His calming influence in the most extreme circumstance combined with competence made him a great fire ground officer.  
It was a privilege to know and work with Mike.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and I share in their loss but count it a privilege to know and work with Him.  Mike would often join us at FS 46 (Fort Apache)  for dinner.  One night I made a vegetarian meal and Mike quietly ate his food as I received jovial harassment about the lack of real food from the crew.  After the meal Mike left the station and came back about an hour later with In and out Burgers for everyone.  We all laughed and had a feast.

Chief McCoy was one of a kind.  I never saw him get upset, and always took control when necessary.  He was the Battalion Chief everyone wanted to work for.  He was my friend, and will always be missed, but will never be forgotten.  He did so much for so many.

I was fortunate enough to have Chief McCoy as my boss, my favorite memories were his visits at Fort Apache (FS46). He would show up with his uniform shirt off and we knew he just wanted to be one of the fellas. He was always a welcome sight.

Chief McCoy, the most kindest man I know.  God bless you and your family.

Humanity lost a great one! Aside from my own dad, Mike was one of the most special people I have had the privilege of sharing air with. He was a man beyond reproach and a Firefighter's Firefighter. I spent countless hours with him from the age of 15 through my years as a firefighter. If there's one thing a can thank Chief McCoy for, it's introducing me to the never ending joys of an Ultimate Cheeseburger at 2am!

I have very fond memories of working with then, Captain Mike at station 23 as a volunteer firefighter. Mike taught me what patient care is all about, in med industry it is know as "bed side manor". He was a master at putting patients and there families at ease, and giving them a sense of peace. He always took any opportunity to turn a situation into a teachable moment, this was very comforting to a rookie firefighter. Mike was one of my all time favorites, I know I am a better manager now having been taught leadership skills from Chief Mc Coy. Rest in peace me friend you will be missed.

One of the kindest, most self assured individuals I ever had the great pleasure to work with.  The fire service has lost one of its heroes!

I first met Mike when he was a Captain Paramedic at Villa Park Station 23 on ORCO MEDIC 1-23 and I was an Explorer Scout with Orange City Fire Dept. back in the early 70's.  He treated me with great respect then, as he always did over our careers; when I was hired full time by CDF/Orange Ranger Unit (OCFD, OCFA) I had gone to medic school in 1980 when Mike was our Paramedic Coordinator.  He was a great mentor and I have always appreciated our working together and friendship over all of these years.  He was a fantastic person and a great firefighter, especially his ability to maintain complete calmness in the face of chaos with just the utterance of words from him as he pulled up on scene of "Oh My".  A classic man for sure, I will miss him!  My condolences to all of his family, my prayers are with you.

Mike was a volunteer for us at the Corona Fire Department.  As the Volunteer Program Coordinator, he was a joy to talk to and always willing to help when needed. He sure loved his grandkids and talked of them often. 
He was still volunteering for us when he told me that he needed to have knee replacement surgery and would need to take a little time off.  Sept 1st was his last day of volunteering so he could have his knee surgery on Sept 6th.  I texted him on Sept 25th just checking on him to see how he was doing and to make sure he was resting so he could heal...but I didn't get a response back, which was not like him.  The next day, Sept 26th, I found out that he had passed.  I sure wish I had another day to talk to him.  We never know when our day will come...he will be missed dearly.

Fought a lot of fire with Mike. I remember one fire just before he retired he was night Ops or a Branch, I don't remember which and I had a division. We were trying like hell to hold Santagio Canyon Road near Cooks Corner. We didn't. I met him around 5am up above the road in a parking lot and we both were out leaning against our vehicles watching the fire cross the road with enthusiasm. I looked at him and said "Mike, I'm all out of ideas". He looked at me and said "Me too.....lets go to camp and get breakfast". Classic calm Mike.

It didn't matter what rank you were or your position within the department, Chief McCoy always treated you with respect and dignity. Thank you Chief for some cherished memories. Our deepest condolences to the McCoy family. Please know Mike will always be remembered!

I had the privilege of working with Chief McCoy in my position as Nurse Educator
in Division One.  He always had time to chat with me, make me laugh  and make me feel part of the OCFA family.  RIP Chief.  Will forever hold your wonderful  laughing face in my heart.
