Mary F. (Johnson) Moore of Montclair passed away peacefully at age 88 in Upland, California. She was born in Missouri and grew up in St. Louis with her four siblings and parents, Walter and Lucille Johnson. In her younger years she enjoyed playing coronet and participating in her church youth group. At the age of 18, she married Hollis Moore and they moved to Michigan. She became a mother at the age of 20 and lived for a few years in Illinois before moving to California, where she lived the rest of her life. She was a homemaker for many years before becoming a food service worker at Montclair High School. She retired after over 20 years of service to have more time to enjoy her children and grandchildren.
Mary was an avid reader of Christian literature who enjoyed gardening, collecting bird figurines and listening to music. She was a generous and thoughtful matriarch to her family, always encouraging and praying for each one. She was always thinking of others, from phone calls to cards to hosting family celebrations. She was known for being a gifted “gift giver”, always choosing something “just right” for each person. Graciousness, smiles and laughter seemed to come easily to her.
She is survived by her brother, John Johnson and her five children, Colleen Kuhns (Jerry), Carol Boyer (Andy), Steve (Eileen), Doug (Diane), and Jeanne Moore, 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 56 years, Hollis Moore, and three of her siblings.
