John William Gebhardt, 89, left us to be with the Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 25, 2017. Known to his family and friends as Jack, he was born in Passaic, New Jersey on July 28, 1927 to John and Florence Gebhardt. He spent his youth in New Jersey and joined the United States Navy in 1944. He served tours of duty in Europe and Korea and was honorably discharged in 1952. Jack moved with his family to California later that year. While living in Pomona and Claremont in the 1950’s and 60’s, Jack supported the Boy Scouts of America as a Troop Committee member and Assistant Scout Master. Jack and Norma were married in 1975 and they have lived in Upland for the 38 years. Jack worked for General Dynamics for 42 years primarily in Quality Control and retired as a manager in 1992. Jack received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1973 and an MBA in 1976 both from Pepperdine University. He also received his lifetime teaching credential and taught Business and Ethics evening courses at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut for several years. Jack was initiated into the Claremont Masonic Lodge #436 in 1957 and was raised to Master Mason in March 1958. He also coached Upland National Little League for many years. Jack was an active member of the Sierra Vista Baptist Church in Rancho Cucamonga where he served on the Board of Trustees. Jack and Norma were active travelers and RV campers visiting many countries and locations in the United States. Jack is survived by his wife of 42 years Norma, son John Gebhardt (Linda), son Terry Worley, daughter Rhonda Eschrich (Jim), daughter-in-law Pat Forsberg, Godson Anthony Sylvester, grandchildren Brian, Jay, Michael and Samantha. Jack was preceded in death by his daughter Bonnie. Jack’s kind and generous heart, sense of humor and supportive nature will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends. Without a doubt, Jack Gebhardt was the ultimate patriot. Memorial Service celebrating Jack’s life will be held at 11:30AM Saturday March 4, 2017 at Sierra Vista Baptist Church located at 7192 Jasper Street, Alta Loma, CA 91701.
