John Ernie Chavez Jr. entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on August 18, 2021. John was born on December 21, 1970 in Upland, CA, was raised in Ontario, CA and spent his final years as a resident of Chino, CA. He is survived by his loving wife Lucia and his children Isabella and Samuel. He is also survived by his mother Evelin Vargas, Denise Chavez (sister), Vivian Johnson (sister), Kristian Chavez (brother), Sylvia Hill (sister) and preceded in death by his brother Paul Chavez. John was a beloved God-father to 11 God children who adored their Nono.
John spent his early years playing baseball in his hometown. He attended Chaffey High School. To know John was to know joy and laughter. He always knew how to bring a smile to people’s faces. Whether it was imitating someone, telling a silly joke or being the funniest one on the dance floor, he brought happiness to all.
He worked as a Utility Service Worker III/DOT for Walnut Water District where he was employed for 16 years. He specialized in Underground Service Alert (USA) markings which is a critical component of working for the water district with very little margin for error. He was always spot on. He was a mentor and friend to his fellow co-workers. He took great pride in his work and it was evident to all. He was always the only one with the orange safety vest on no matter what.
His greatest accomplishment was his family. He fell in love with his wife at a young age of 14 and 11 years later vowed to love her forever. She was his heart and he was hers. They were married for 24 happy years. He was most proud of his two children Isabella and Samuel. He took great joy in watching them grow up and become more independent even if it broke his heart a little.
Above all, his greatest love was the Lord. After giving his life to the Lord at the age of 14, he dedicated his life to honoring and serving Him. He was a true man of God and it was evident in his service to others. He always put others before himself. His signature gift of joy, shown through his constant big smile, laughter and joking around will never be forgotten.
