Florence was born in Brooklyn, New York and passed away on February 4, 2014 in San Antonio Hospital at the age of 85. Florence graduated with honors from Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn in 1945 and later married the love of her life, Leo H. Klein, on October 18, 1947. Professionally, she later became a bookkeeper for Doubleday Book Company in Garden City, Long Island for 24 years. Florence was a loving and devoted wife to Leo for 33 years until she unfortunately became widowed in 1980.
In 1986, she left New York and moved to Rancho Cucamonga, CA to be near her children and their families, where she continued to be a wonderful and caring mother, grandmother, and later, a great grandmother. In addition to being a devoted friend as well as a nurturing force in her family’s lives, Florence loved traveling, motion pictures, theater, museums, and the beach – also having lived near Laguna Beach for 15 years. Her grandchildren have extremely fond memories of spending numerous weeks with her during the summer months in Laguna.
In addition to having founded a local chapter of CancerCare in Bellmore, Long Island; Florence was also an active member of her local synagogues both in Laguna Hills as well as in Ontario, and had also fought for women’s rights for many years, including being a member of N.O.W. (National Organization for Women). Her later years were spent enjoying time with her great grandchildren and occasional trips to the local Indian casinos.
She was a strong and inspirational woman who is survived by her son Henry (Ann) Klein, daughter Ilene (Tim) Gulla; grandchildren Sheryl (Jamie) Miller, Lindsay Gulla, Lauren Klein, and Ben (Jen) Klein; as well as great grandchildren Noah Klein, Tyler Miller and Macie Miller. Florence is also survived by one brother, Murray (Shirley) Silver, and their families.
Memorial Services will be held at Draper Mortuary in Ontario at 10:00 am on Friday, February 7th. Florence will be laid to rest beside her beloved great granddaughter Mackenzie Violet Miller at Crestlawn Cemetery in Riverside. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to CancerCare.
“I love you with my whole heart, my whole soul, my whole being, forever and ever and ever.”
