Carol passed away peacefully on the afternoon of August 11, 2022 in Upland, California after a very long life of, as she put it, incredibly good fortune. She was loved dearly by her large multigenerational family and many adoring friends.
Carol was born Carol Margaret Ivers in Pierre, South Dakota in 1927. Her family moved to Rapid City where she spent most of her childhood and teen years. Carol attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. But it was back in Rapid City that Carol met and fell in love with the dashing and charismatic Leslie Carson. Leslie, equally smitten, asked her to marry him at the end of World War II where he served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater. After their marriage, Carol and Leslie moved to California where Leslie worked in the aircraft industry and their two sons David and Tim were born. When the boys were maturing into high school, Carol returned to college, attending USC and earning her Master's degree in Social Work. She interned at the Women's Correctional Facility in Chino, California, and went on to work in private practice. After that, she worked at West End Family Counseling. During this time, Leslie began his own business, Slide-Co Manufacturing, making and selling hardware parts for screen and sliding doors. Eventually, Carol went to work in the family business, heading up HR. Carol and Leslie settled in Ontario, California, where they enjoyed their beautiful home in Ontario's historic development on PVW Pomona Valley Workshop and OPARC.
Together, Carol and Leslie built a small hardware empire, unrivaled until the late 90's when, after Leslie's death, Slide-Co was sold. Carol spent the remaining years enjoying her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, of whom she was extremely proud. Carol volunteered her time at her beloved Bethel Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, and at the library in Ontario. She was a member of the Shakespeare Club and the Mensa Society.
Carol is survived by her sons David and Tim, their wives, children, and grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews- an impressive legacy, to be sure. Her kindness, generosity, and dry wit will be terribly missed.
There will be a graveside service Friday, August 26, at 10:30 AM at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 W G St., Ontario, California, 91762. A Celebration of Life following the service will be at the home of Tim and Cathy Carson, 405 E Sixth St., Ontario, California, 91764. For any information, contact Draper Mortuary at 909-986-1131.
