Resided in Chino over 60 years.
Annie was born in Cypress, CA, March 9, 1926, the middle child of 11 children of Antonio J and Laurentina Machado. Raised with 8 sisters and two brothers, she learned at an early age to milk cows and maintain a dairy. In 1955, she moved from Artesia to become a dairy owner/partner and managed A & C Dairy #1, A & C Green Feed and A & C Dairy #2. Over the next 21 years, she worked day and night working either in the fields or assisting on the dairies. She was one of Chino’s first Dairy Women.
The dairy located on east Walnut Avenue near Vineyard became the highlight of her life, but was sold in 1977 to make room for the 60 Freeway and housing. In June 1977, she received the Dairy Belle of the Year Award from the L. A. Chamber of Commerce, representing the counties of San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, Ventura and Los Angeles. She was also proud that her milk won awards every year for the 21 years in business.
After retirement from the dairy, she began working at Chino Unified School District, Student Services, maintaining the records of all the students. She thoroughly enjoyed her position there and met many friends. In the mid-1980’s she was also instrumental in starting a Toughlove Group for Chino, volunteering many hours and for her effort she received recognition in October 1985 from the San Bernardino County Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission.
Her hobbies included stain glass design and tole painting. Her specialty was tole painting Holstein cows.
