Walter Lauren Bettiol was born on January 3, 1938 in Kortright, New York. He was the son of Fannie (Callahan) Bettiol and Anthony Peter Bettiol. He attended Morris Central School for 10 years and had fond memories of playing basketball in the barn addition with his brothers and town friends. Walt graduated from Otego Central in 1956. He enjoyed playing high school sports and the love of sports continued throughout his life. He attended Ithaca and Cortland College where he pursued his interest in the sports field.
He married the love of his life, Violet Young, on February 26, 1960. Together they raised 3 children in Otego. He was a generous and compassionate man and was proud to have shared a birthday and the love of genealogy with a special niece, Jaci Bettiol. His dedication and love for his family is how he would want to be remembered.
Walt’s career ventures consisted of real estate and rental properties, serving on the Village of Otego Board as a Trustee, and a school bus driver for Unatego for 10 years. He retired from his last business venture, The Country Corner Mart- Sunoco, West Oneonta in 2006. After retirement, he and Violet traveled and spent several winters in Myrtle Beach.
He is survived by his wife: Violet, daughter: Christina (Mike) Lee, sons: Walter A. Bettiol and Ronald (Janice) Bettiol. Grandchildren: Christopher, Savanna and Rebecca Lee (triplets), Bryan and Shannon Bettiol, Tanya (Chris) Fiorerosso, Brett Bettiol, Greg (Kristina) Ellis, Brian (Kate) Ellis. Great Grandchildren: Samson, Elijah, Evangeline, Carmine, Ronan, Frankie May, Caden, and Hudson. Sister-in-laws: Linda Kinman, Arleen Young, Betty Bettiol. Brother-in-laws: Dale (Dorraine) Young and Daniel Young, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by parents Anthony and Fannie Bettiol, Brothers Eugene Bettiol (December 2, 2017) and Arthur Bettiol (December 2, 2020), Sister-in-law Annalise Bettiol, In-laws Roselle and Alice Young, and James Stoesser who was raised as part of the Young family.
Calling hours will be on December 14, 2023 between 4:30 and 6:30 PM at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta NY. A private celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
