Susan L. Bliss

She was born July 30, 1933 in the Town of Middlefield, NY the daughter of the late Clifford and Ada C. (Hodges) Smith.

On October 16, 1949, Susan married John L. Bliss in Milford. John predeceased her on March 7, 1992.

In her younger years, Susan enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks, fishing, snowmobiling and other outdoor activities and getting together with family and playing cards. She enjoyed the many family summer vacations, traveling the country. She also used to love square dancing and going to stock car races. Susan was a talented creative crafter and loved gardening, tending to her flowers, watching and feeding the birds, doing word search puzzles, going for evening and Sunday drives looking for deer and going to lawn sales.

She also enjoyed watching “The Waltons” and “Little House on the Prairie” and was an avid “Days of Our Lives” fan having watched it since it came on years ago.

But Susan’s greatest joy was her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed.

Susan was a member of the Portlandville United Methodist Church.

Susan is survived by her daughter, Linda and Henry Cook of Portlandville; grandson, Michael and Terry Mulkins of Mt. Vision; great grandson, Jody Mulkins of Oneonta; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Bliss, Patricia Ventre and Shirley Bliss; brother-in-law, George Miller; cousin, Katherine Yager; as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lou Ann Bliss.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. MaryEllen Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, Hartwick Seminary. Memorial donation’s in memory of Susan may be made to the Milford Emergency Squad, State Highway 28, Milford, New York 13807.
