He was born December 26, 1936 in Oneonta the son of the late Raymond and Thelma (Winslow) Carr.
A lifelong area resident, Roger graduated from Oneonta High School the Class of 1954. Following graduation he enlisted in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1961.
On April 5, 1958 at the River Street Baptist Church, Roger married the love of his life, Gloria Brown. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Known to many as “Mr. Connector”, Roger worked for 39 years at Amphenol as a design engineer designing connectors for NASA and Military applications.
He was an excellent wood worker and a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He enjoyed watching tv westerns and NASCAR, trips to the casino, where he was known for getting Royal Flushes and 4 Aces. Roger also enjoyed RVing and traveling. After retirement Roger and Gloria spent the next 25 years traveling. Some of their favorite places were Biloxi, MS, The Badlands, Deadwood, N.D., Yuma, AZ, their favorite RV park in N.C. and many NASCAR tracks. But above all of that what brought Roger the greatest joy was his family. His wife, sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the loves of his life.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; two sons, Kevin Carr and Timothy (Jacky) Carr; daughter-in-law, Susan Carr; seven grandchildren, Steven (Courtney) Carr, Stefanie (Aaron) Hale, Joshua (Dennise) Carr, Chad (Brittany) Carr, Chelsea (Collin) Tang, Jacob Carr and Erica Carr; six great grandchildren, Aiden Carr, Madelynn Carr, Elara Almy, Rowan Hale, Cameron Carr and Liam Tang; one sister, Norma Slawson; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Dennis Carr and two brothers, Gerald and Dale Carr.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Roger’s Life will immediately follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Randy Palada officiating. The family requests that all guests attending dress casual and NO TIES.
