He was born October 26, 1935 in New York City, the son of Edwin W. and Edith (Rehm) Pickhardt.
He is survived by his sons and their families, Eric and Rica Pickhardt of Franklin, Steve and Paula Pickhardt of Frankin and their children, Ryan, Gregory, and Michael; Thomas and Michelle Pickhardt of Franklin and their children David, John and Daniel; a brother, Edwin Wallace Pickhardt, Jr. of Oneonta; a sister, Joan Pickhardt of Oneonta; and his ex-wife, Helen Pickhardt of Stamford.
He was predeceased by his life companion, Elise Gould; as well as his parents.
A gifted artist and musician, Mr. Pickhardt expressed his creativity through oil painting, water color, sculpting and wood carving as well as playing clarinet, trumpet, piano and baritone horn.
He participated and took great interest in the Stagecoach Run Art Festival in Treadwell and was also a member of the Piano Technician Guild of NJ. He was a member of the Oneonta Unitarian Church.
Robert could quite often be found refinishing furniture and restoring antique pianos.
A devoted father and grandfather, he loved reading and playing with his grandchildren. He was fond of dining out with friends and family. He always had a joke to share and loved to laugh. He was an avid movie connoisseur and enjoyed basketball.
A funeral service will take place at 1 pm on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the HillCity Church, 1796 Co Rd 48, Oneonta, NY 13820, with Rev. Phil Livermore officiating. Friends are invited to greet the family at the church prior to the service beginning at 11 am. Military honors will follow. A reception will be held at the church immediately after until 4 pm.
Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions is Robert’s memory are asked to be made to the Franklin Emergency Squad.
