He was born May 28, 1940 in Newcomb, New York the son of the late Lee and Florence (Benjerman) Griffin.
He graduated from Newcomb High School.
Skip began working at the Town of Newcomb as a heavy equipment operator. He then went to work for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #106 in Albany also as a heavy equipment operator. After 44 years, Skip retired on September 27, 2002.
On October 18, 1986, Skip married Evelyn (White) Walke in Bainbridge. Together they shared 25 wonderful years of marriage.
In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing and later in life became an avid NASCAR fan. But most of all Skip loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Skip is survived by his wife, Evelyn Griffin of Maryland; his children, Bonnie and Kevin Whittum , Kevin and Shelly Griffin both of NH, Steven and Susan Walke of Schenevus, Tina Walke of IL, James and Alison Walke and Timothy and Kathleen Walke both of Schenevus; a special friend whom meant a lot to Skip, Mary Smythe of VA; 18 grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Jr., Kristian, Keith, Kristie, Peter and Rachel all of NH, Ashley, Maura, Jennifer, Megan and Christopher J. all of Schenevus, Doreen and Patrick both of Unadilla, and Timothy, Christopher, Michael and Angela all of VA; 17 great grandchildren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Philip Bedford of Oneonta; as well as several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Keith Griffin and two brothers, Lee Benjerman and John Griffin.
At Skip’s request funeral services will be private. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Skip’s memory may be made to either the Schenevus/Maryland Emergency Squad, c/o Tony Lombardo, 54 Depot Street, Schenevus, New York 12155 or to the charity of one’s choice.
