He was born October 26, 1929 in Rockville Center, NY the son of the late Herman F. Markert, Sr. and Margaret (Bloeth) Markert.
Herman proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953 and was deployed to Korea. While deployed, he earned a 1 Star Korean Service Medal, the Bravery Gold Medal of Greece and the Good Conduct Medal.
For many years, Herman operated Herman’s Garage in Lynbrook, NY.
He and his wife Geri were seasonal residents of Goodyear Lake beginning in the 1980's until they moved there full time in 1993. Bud was a member of the Goodyear Lake Association, the Elks and the South Shore Power Squadron.
Herman is survived by his children Peter Markert (Labelle, FL), Suzanne Markert-Benitez (Miami, FL), and Christopher Markert of his first wife, Patricia; his step-sons Richard Eads (Ave Maria, FL) and Thomas Eads (Phoenix, AZ) of second wife Geri; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and his girlfriend Sharon Swenson. He was a life-long friend of Sheldon and Carol Weiss.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 4, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta. Burial will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
