She was born January 3, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of James Swift Hubbard & Katharine Aikman Hubbard.
She attended Erasmus High & Pratt Institute and on August 9, 1942 married Cameron “Bill” Reed at The Flatbush-Tompkins Congregational Church.
Grace worked as a secretary for Standard Oil of NJ @ Rockefeller Center & later in life for the Nassau Council Boy Scouts of America. Mostly, she worked at being a great Mom & homemaker. After her children, her proudest accomplishment was her membership in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as a descendent of Hezekiah Hubbard (Lexington & Concord). Originally, she was a member of the Col. Aaron Ogden Chapter, Garden City, NY later transferring to the Oneonta Chapter DAR.
Grace, a 50+ year member of the Garden City Community Church (UCC) was very active in church & community activities. She was definitely a “city “ girl with a great love of the ocean but after moving to St. James Manor in 2001, fell in love with Otsego County’s rolling hills & lakes especially enjoying her Saturday trips for a whiskey sour & lobster roll at the Blue Mingo or the Neptune Diner. Her “guilty” pleasure was an ice cream soda from the Golden Guernsey.
Survivors include her daughter, Priscilla Reed Welch, of Goodyear Lake; her sister-in-law, Mary M. Hubbard of Sun City Center, FL; a niece, Susan Hubbard Corbett of FL and a nephew, Richard (Rose) Hubbard of IL.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Bill (1991) and her son, Walter (2000) as well as her sons-in-law, Michael C. Welch (1983) & Michael J. Breen (2007)
