Gordon Ellis, born May 28, 1947, in Tupper Lake, NY, to Gertrude Ellis and Gordon Ellis, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, connection, and humor. A devoted husband to Louise Ellis, whom he married on August 23, 1969, Gordon was a proud father to daughters Nicole Parker and Christine Vandermiller, and son Mark Ellis.
Raised in the heart of the Adirondacks, Gordon’s early years in Tupper Lake—a tight-knit community surrounded by serene lakes and rugged mountains—fostered his strong work ethic and quick wit that brightened any room. He graduated from Ricker College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, setting the stage for a distinguished career. His exceptional service and sales at Sysco earned him a place in the prestigious Torchbearers Club in 1981. In 2009, he founded Ellis Paper Company, reflecting his entrepreneurial drive and commitment to excellence.
As a young man, Gordon loved skiing, embracing the thrill of the slopes on Tupper Lake’s snowy peaks. In later years, he found joy walking the family dog, Ella, around the Hartwick campus, where his friendly nature shone. Gordon befriended all he met, often with a clever quip or a hearty laugh that made strangers feel like old friends. His passion for family history led him to uncover the stories that shaped his lineage, always finding humor in the quirks of the past. Gordon’s legacy of humor—his ability to find joy in the everyday and share it generously—will live on in the countless lives he touched.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta, New York 13820.
