She was born May 7, 1924 in Coventry, NY the daughter of the late Frank and Eva (Howland) Blakeslee.
Fran graduated from Afton Central School and further her studies at State Teachers College, Oneonta and received a Master’s Degree in Education. She was an Elementary Teacher in the Liverpool and Milford School Districts.
On December 21, 1957, Fran married Donald L. Green in Oneonta. Donald predeceased her on May 13, 1995.
Fran was a woman with many interests. At a young age she learned carpentry from her father and loved to wallpaper and was a wonderful seamstress. She was a lover of History and a Civil War buff. For many years, Fran was the Huntington Library Historian. She even wrote a couple of history books. A true patriot who believed in the Red, White and Blue. An animal lover and bird watcher her favorite bird was the Eagle. In her later years, Fran and her sister, Georgia enjoyed riding around and taking photos of churches, cemeteries and covered bridges. She also enjoyed caning chairs with her husband, craft group at Elm Park United Methodist Church and watching NASCAR, Syracuse Basketball and Pro Boxing. Fran was also very involved with volunteering with the West Oneonta Fire Department Horse Shows. She looked forward to this event every summer. Her family will remember her as a wonderful cook and baker (zucchini bread was her specialty). In the summer she would love to grow and tend to her garden, pick berries and then in the fall harvest her crops and her and Don would spend a lot of time canning all sorts of “stuff” (sauces, relish, vegetables, fruit, etc.).
Fran was a member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, the Oneonta Historical Society, the Covered Bridge Society, the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years and the West Oneonta Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary.
Fran is survived by her children, Mark A. & Kristine Green, West Oneonta and Marie Green Curpier, Saratoga; granddaughter, Lily Brooke Curpier; sister, M. Eileen Hotaling, Binghamton; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Georgia Blakeslee; brother-in-law, David Hotaling; niece, Charleen Seeley;
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2019 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the funeral home with the Rev. David Rockwell officiating. Burial will be in the Cook Cemetery, West Oneonta.
