Cora B Odell

She was born June 09, 1934 at Fox Hospital, Oneonta the daughter of the late Gerald A. and Beatrice E. (Finch) Gibbs.

Cora graduated from Oneonta High School Class of 1953.

On September 17, 1966, Cora married the love of her life, Howard J. Odell. Howard predeceased her on March 27, 2010.

Cora lived in the Town of Davenport her whole life. She worked at the Tally Ho Restaurant for many years and later was a co-owner of the restaurant. Cora owned and operated the Power Puff Beauty Salon in Oneonta until she sold it to stay home and raise her children. She later volunteered at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown and then at A.O. Fox Hospital, Oneonta.

Cora was a longtime member of the West Davenport Baptist Church where she served as the President of the Ladies Missionary Group. She later attended the Southside Wesleyan Church.

Cora and Howard enjoyed traveling, especially trips to the Mid-West and the New England States. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, spending time with her family especially her granddaughter, Jordan Marie.

Cora is survived by her son, Lance and Danielle Odell of Oneonta; daughter, Kay Odell and Al Brown of Manchester, TN; one granddaughter, Jordan Odell of Oneonta; two sisters-in-law, Grace Tuthill of Oneonta and Doreen Laing of Bainbridge; several nieces and nephews; one cousin, Ronald and Jerri Lynn Gibbs of Michigan; special friends, Pam Marble, Nikki Emmett and Melissa Harrington and the many wonderful caregivers. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Gibbs; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Cora’s family would like to send a special thank you to the many wonderful caregivers who helped care for her over the last several years that allowed her to remain in her home.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 11:00am to 12:30pm in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12:30pm with the Rev. Stephen D. Fournier officiating.
