He was born September 27, 1930 in Treadwell, the son of the late William and Flora (Brown) Lake.
Brownie proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict.
On October 12, 1968, Brownie married Louise Martindale in Otego. Louise predeceased him on December 19, 1995.
For over 30 years, Brownie worked for the Town of Oneonta Highway Department until his retirement in 1995.
He enjoyed mowing his lawn. He took pride in having a nice lawn. Brownine also liked helping others. He was a giver and gave of his time and asked nothing in return. He also loved the time spent with Louise helping with the various activities at the Elm Park United Methodist Church. But most of all, Brownie loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Brownine is survived by his six daughters, Tracy Hoffman and her fiancé, James Andrews of Cooperstown, Terry Cimko of Oneonta, Josephine Ouimet of Oneonta, Carol Roberts of Maryland, Gail Davis of Oneonta and Audrey Henderson of Worcester; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one sister, Viola Clark of Utica; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Hadden of Bradenton, FL and Thelma Martindale of Sidney; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters and his in-laws, Margaret and Homer Martindale.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 11, 2013 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the funeral home with the Reverend David Rockwell officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial donations in Brownie’s name may be made to the New York State Veterans Home, Maple Cottage Wing, 4211 State Highway 220, Oxford, New York 13830.
