She was born November 18, 1928 in Guilford the daughter of the late Caleb Whiting and Florence Linhart (Ruff) Briggs.
Anna married Ralph Jack Butler on October 1, 1948 in Gilbertsville. Ralph predeceased her on June 3, 1987.
For many years, Anna helped on the family farm and also babysat for many children over the years. Although she lost the ability to see, Anna had the biggest garden that was full of the freshest vegetables but there wasn’t a weed in the garden. She enjoyed harvesting her crops and canning them. She also enjoyed sewing and would make her own dresses.
Anna is survived by her four children, Edwin (Sally) Butler, Smithfield, ME, William (Sharon) Butler, Schenevus, Shirley (David) Hodges, Hartwick and David (Lori) Butler, Hartwick; six grandchildren, Tammy Carvin & fiancé, Mark Wasta, Sr., Scott Butler, Katrina (Jeff) Kern, Tonya (Ryan) Adamczyk, Brian Butler and Bryn Butler; six great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Mahlon (Marion) Briggs, Helen (Hugh) Spencer, Elsie Briggs, Edna (Raymond) Goss and Betty Briggs; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Margaret (Don) Gaughan, Betty (Gordon) Goodspeed, Louis (Evelyn) Butler and Richard (Janet) Butler, Don (Marge) Butler, Earl (Virginia) Butler.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Stephen D. Fournier officiating with burial in the Charlotte Valley Cemetery, West Davenport.
