Born to Douglas and Jolene Dougherty in Larned, KS, April 6, 1965, Warren grew up in Wichita, KS, and graduated from Rose Hill High School in 1983. He met his future wife Cathy Hammer at a D&D session while at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS, the following year. While at KSU, Warren earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and one of the first Bachelors in Computer Engineering that KSU ever awarded. Shortly after he earned his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Warren and Cathy were married in Manhattan, KS, May 22, 1993 instantly adding Cathy's son Daniel to the growing family. Warren was always a dedicated family man. Mark and Rosalie also joined the family as the years went by. Warren and Cathy celebrated their 25th anniversary earlier this year surrounded by family and friends.
Warren worked as a computer programmer throughout his professional career in Chicago and Omaha. His employers included Raytheon, Vanguard, 21 CSI, Omaha Steaks and, most recently, the US government and Booz Allen Hamilton , where he would happily tell anyone who asked that he "Worked for Booz."
Warren enjoyed many outdoor activities in his volunteer work with his family in the Boy Scouts and Venture Scouts; vacationing annually at one camp or another. He was an avid reader (often, unfortunately, spoiling the good ones for his friends) and particularly enjoyed computer and "role playing" games, alone and with his children. Warren was active in his church and its choir. He performed in many theatrical productions, starring as Jesus in "Godspell" and as Noah in "Noah". Mostly, however, Warren will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his kind spirit and gentle soul. He was truly “slow to anger, and of great kindness.” He will be truly missed by a great many people!
A celebration of Warren’s life will be held at Kingsway Christian Church at 1106 S. 139th, Omaha, Nebraska on November 29, 2018 at 3:00 pm, with visitation with family from 6:00 - 8:00 pm the same day. Interment and graveside service will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas on December 1, 2018, at 1:00 pm.
