Su Qin Cai, a beloved mother, grandmother, and pillar of strength for her family, passed away peacefully in Omaha, NE on April 9th 2025, at the age of 76. Her life was a testament to resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering love.
Su Qin was born in 1948 in the city of Taishan, Guangdong Province, China. Growing up in post-war China, she learned early the values of hard work, humility, and perseverance. In 1989, seeking a better life for her family, she immigrated to the United States and settled in Fremont, California. There, she began work as a dim sum chef — a trade that required immense skill, patience, and long hours.
In 2001, Su Qin moved to Omaha, Nebraska, to help launch the family restaurant, Grand Fortune. Her dedication to the business was matched only by her devotion to her family. She worked tirelessly behind the scenes — not for recognition, but for the quiet satisfaction of knowing her loved ones had food on the table and opportunities ahead. She carried the weight of generations on her shoulders and did so with grace and quiet pride.
Su Qin was the heartbeat of her family, nurturing her grandchildren with the same steadfast care and strength that defined her every action. She rarely spoke of her own needs, instead pouring all she had into the lives of those she loved. Her legacy is one of selflessness — of long hours, gentle wisdom, and enduring love.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren, who will carry forward her memory with deep respect and affection. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the meals shared around the family table, in the lessons she passed down, and in the strength she instilled in each of us.
A visitation for Su will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106. A funeral service will occur Sunday, April 13, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
