Sharon D. Kirby

Sharon D Kirby, born March 7, 1936 died June 6, 2023. She was 87 years old. Sharon spent her life in service to others as a teacher for 40 years for both the Nebraska School for the Deaf and as an elementary school teacher for the Omaha Public Schools. Her dedication to her students was unswerving and unceasing. Sharon was an active member of the Aksarben Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star having spent over 40 years in active service to the order and as the mother of a young DeMolay. She had the heart of a servant who gave more than she had when and where it was needed.

Her happiest and proudest time on earth was spent as a mother devoted to raising her children. She was widowed as a young mother left with four young children and dedicated her life to raising them providing for their needs and desires. Through marriages she also became mom to ten additional children and many grand children who all came to call her mom and grandma with great love and affection. You could find no woman so proud of all of her children and grand children as Sharon Kirby.

Besides being a teacher, Sharon was a cook, a launderer, an advisor, an entertainer, a chauffeur, and at times even a referee. She spent the majority of her free time driving kids to football and baseball practices, games, swim meets, band and choral performances, theatre rehearsals and performances, and also squeezed in working concessions. When she didn’t work a game or event she was finally able to sit and cheer on her favorite humans… and cheer she did!

Sharon suffered a long battle with multiple health afflictions that slowed her down the last few years of her life, but she never lost her grit nor her “sass”.

Sharon was preceded in death by her mother Vivian Delehoy, father Benjamin Delehoy, husbands Wilbur G.V. Huston and Earl Kirby, brother Darwyn Delehoy (Janet), sister Jeyneise Dobbins (Ron), brother in-law Ronald Dobbins, daughter in-law Maureen Huston (Hugh), and nephews Larry Dobbins (Misa) and Vance Delehoy (Marcia).

She is survived by her sister in-law Janet Delehoy (Darwyn), daughter Sherryl Huston, sons Dirk Huston, Hugh Huston, and Brett Huston (Barbara); grand children Molly Huston, Emily Huston-Pettersson (Patrik), Benjamin Huston, Madelyn Huston, and Caleb Huston. As well as nieces and nephews Linda Marshal and Mark Dobbins, Kim Reid (Doug), Renee Delehoy, and several grand nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous extended family members.
