and Mary C. (Suder) Swassing in Council Bluffs, IA. He attended St. Peter's Catholic Grade
School and graduated in 1954 from Abraham Lincoln High School. While at ALHS, Ron played
baseball and was asked to try out as a pitcher for the Omaha Cardinals (however, it was
discovered he was shy of the age requirement, so he was cut).
In 1955, after one year of playing football at Tarkio College in Missouri, Ron enlisted in the
U.S. Army. He survived basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX, spent time at Ft. Devens, MA,
and graduated from Officers Candidate Training at Ft. Sill, OK. As a 1st Lieutenant, Ron was
stationed in the Philippines at Clark Air Force Base. Upon being discharged from the Army, he
moved back to Council Bluffs. Ron then attended Creighton University and went to work as a
claims adjuster.
On June 23, 1962, Ron married his one true love, Lynn E. Keeler, at St. Patrick's Catholic
Church in Council Bluffs. They lived in Chicago, IL for a short time, until moving back to Omaha,
NE.
Over the years, Ron worked at several different insurance companies, until he went in to
business for himself and opened Frontier Adjusters of Omaha.
Ron was active in the Exchange Club of Omaha and the Men's Breakfast Club of Omaha, and
he played golf as often as possible. He loved tailgaiting and attending the College World Series,
Husker football games, and rooting on the Creighton Bluejays. Ron also loved traveling,
popcorn, peanut m&m's, fixing things with all his tools, and working in the yard. He always held
on to his love for the Army.
Above all, Ron loved his family and friends. He could be seen at almost every soccer,
football, volleyball, basketball, and softball game, at track meets and cheerleading events, and
in the audience for dance recitals and school programs. He was often known to provide his own
“coaching” from the sidelines.
Ron would drop everything to help a family member or friend. He was known for his work
ethic, honesty, kindness, graciousness, service, friendliness, and wisdom - everyone seemed to
learn from him.
Ron is survived by his wife, Lynn Swassing; his daughter, Kimberly Swassing; his sons,
Ronald M. Swassing and Richard Swassing; 5 grandchildren: KayLynn (Brady) Theisen,
Stephanie Swassing, Ashley Swassing, Lauren Swassing, and Kaleb Swassing; 2
great-grandchildren: AvaLynn Rose Swassing and Landon William Theisen; his siblings: Sandra
(Dave) Smith and Charles (Gudren) Swassing; many, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ron's delight of the day was to have his grandchildren visit him, especially with ice cream!
