Norman J. Miller, 72, Omaha, Nebraska passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022. Norm was born September 25, 1949 in Wakefield, Nebraska and grew up in Onawa, Iowa. The son of Edward and Ruth Miller he went to school in Onawa and worked at a local farm during high school. He graduated from West Monona Community High School in 1967. He received an Associate’s Degree from Iowa Western University in May 1969. He enlisted in the Navy on August 25, 1969 and served on the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy. He married Roberta (Bobbie) Sowards on June 30, 1972.
Throughout his career he worked at Mutual of Omaha, Corvel, Nebraska Orthopedic Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and the VA. During retirement he enjoyed delivering cars for several local car dealerships.
He enjoyed softball, bowling, and the car races. Most of all, Norm loved his family. His favorite thing was spending time with them during Sunday dinners. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, three children and their spouses, Julie (Miller) Kannas-Geyer and husband Doug, Melissa (Miller) Owings and husband Brian, Matt Miller, and wife Maggie, eight grandchildren – Joey, Jake and Jace Kannas, Madison, Brendan and Grant Owings, and McKenna and Brooklyn Miller, brother Gerald (Jerry) Miller and his wife Beth, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ken and Jack, and sister Nancy (Miller) Carritt.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Norm’s name can be sent to Dreamweaver Foundation or St. Croix Hospice.
