Mary Jane Garrett, age 95, passed away peacefully in Boise, ID. She was born in Strawberry Point, IA, to Willoughby MacTaggart and Anita (Luckhardt) MacTaggart. She had numerous stories about working on the farm. She told of her technique for milking cows with her glamorous nails and how she hated shocking oats because of the snakes. Shortly after leaving home, she met Ron, "the guy in the band," that became her husband of 60 years. They raised two children in Bellevue, NE, where she lived until 2015 at which time she moved to Boise to be closer to her daughter.
No matter what task was in front of her, she approached it with great resolve, whether it was support of her children's and grandchildren's activities, managing the customer service/credit department at Brandeis, studying the horse racing form, or playing blackjack or bridge.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald LeRoy Garrett; son, Ronald Garrett (Skip); and daughter-in-law, Pamela Garrett.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherri (John) Carpenter; grandchildren, Ron (Cynthia) Garrett, Andi Garrett, Liz Carpenter, and Laurel (Robert) Happel; great-grandchildren, Emma, Bailey, Bo, Sophia, and Sarah; brothers, Earl and Verl MacTaggart, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on May 11th at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park, Omaha, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to Special Olympics or the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Foundation.
