Marita was born in Omaha, NE in 1944. She attended St Ann’s Grade School and Mercy High School. A lifelong learner with a tremendous heart for helping others, she pursued her dream of becoming a teacher, earning her B.A. from College of Saint Mary, and her M.A. from University of Nebraska-Omaha. Marita taught English at Mercy High School, and it was during that time she met her soulmate, Dale. They were married in 1968, and soon welcomed three children. Marita explored other career interests such as sales and interior decorating, but eventually returned to her love of teaching. She taught at Metropolitan Community College for nearly thirty years, and was an advocate and cheerleader for every student. As an only child, many of her friends became ‘sisters’ to her, and Marita loved them deeply. Marita was a devoted wife and mother. She recognized and celebrated the uniqueness of each of her children, and quickly became a fan of whatever interest they pursued. She took much joy in her two grandchildren, who proudly called her Nana. Marita loved traveling, and she and Dale took many family vacations. Marita bravely fought breast cancer twice, as well as Acute Myeloid Leukemia. When the love of her life, Dale, passed suddenly on October 28, Marita’s health declined rapidly. The two were inseparable, standing steadfastly by each other for over 56 years of marriage. They are now reunited once again eternally.
Marita is preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Marie Douglass, as well as her husband, Dale. She is survived by her children, Michelle “Mimi” Hahn, Douglass Hahn, and Heather (Kevin) Ruff, grandchildren, Connor and Quinn, and her beloved rescue dog, Panda Bear.
