MacArthur “Mac” Aidan Campbell, passed away on Monday, July 3rd of an unexpected natural cause. He was 39 years old, two days short of his 40th birthday. He was born on July 5, 1983, to elated parents Terry and Delores. His middle name, Aidan, means “little fire”, an apt description given his bright, shining, and intense nature.
For much of his adult life, Mac struggled with mental and physical illness, including addiction. However, these difficulties did not define him. He was incredibly intelligent, expressive, sensitive, and loving. His nature was complex, and his mental agility was always in the forefront. He held numerous and varied interests.
Some of Mac’s favorite things:
Vacation getaway - the Black Hills, the mountains of Colorado, Lake Okoboji, the Oregon coast
Automobile - Ford Shelby GT500, any Mustang
Music - Simon and Garfunkel, The Ramones, Beck… it was hard to find a genre he didn’t like
Military Aircraft - McDonnell Douglas f4 Phantom II
Scientist - Neil deGrasse Tyson and Carl Sagan
Pastimes - Video games, strumming the guitar and writing poetry
Dreams - going to Scotland, Ireland and New Zealand and owning an RV
Foods - Blackberry pie, pesto, oatmeal pancakes, hamburgers, and goulash
Pets - Cheever the Airedale, Eve the Black Lab mix and Malley the Scottie
Comedy icons - Beavis and Butthead, The Simpsons, Adult Swim
He was passionate about these things, but his true love and devotion was to his family. He loved his mother and father intensely, centering his daily activities on spending time with them.
Mac was preceded in death by grandparents Thomas and Kathryn Campbell, Richard and Frances MacArthur, Aunt Susan McArthur, and infant brother Thomas Braden Campbell. He is survived by loving parents and stepparents Terry Campbell (Kerry McManus) and Delores McArthur-Miller (Doug Miller), many relatives, mentors, and friends.
