Joyce was born 27 Oct 1972 in Austin, Texas, to loving parents Ken and Linda Shockley. Joyce's childhood was filled with swimming competitions, singing in church, playing with cousins in Stockdale, TX, and spending a great deal of time with grandparents. Joyce was especially close to Grandma Shockley, and spent many summer days keeping her company, watching shows and just talking for hours. Joyce learned to fish, go camping and boating, and shuck oysters with her family and friends. Crawfish, Oysters, and chips & salsa were her favorites. Her happiest times were riding Harley with her father Ken, going to weekend long Texas bbq's, spending time with family, especially her newly born niece Addison. Joyce had been planning a long trip home for her birthday, where she especially wished to meet her nephew Dylan.
Joyce attended school in Angleton, Texas, graduating in 1991. Ever popular with the administration, Joyce was asked to work in the office for Principal Hale. Joyce met a young football coach who had just moved to town. Shawn S. Friesen and Joyce fell in love immediately on 14 August 1993. For 18 years & one month they were inseparable, spending all their time together, finally marrying on 29 March 1997. Joyce later moved with Shawn to Omaha Nebraska.
In Nebraska, Joyce earned a college degree in Information Technology in May, 2011, having studied computer repair and networking at Metro Community College. Joyce was in the process of being promoted at her newjob at Office Max, where she had worked two times previously. Joyce had been a supervisor at Office Max, at Hewlett Packard, sold insurance for AlG, and worked at Panera Bread. Joyce and Shawn were working towards self employment, with the idea of Joyce running a business, doing computer repair and web design. She would have had the freedom to live in Texas, Nebraska, or live alternatively in both states, as returning to Texas was Joyce's greatest wish.
Joyce spent the last weeks of her life happily. She and husband Shawn had grown much closer recently, and they did many fun, autumn activities, like walking apple orchards, driving with the windows down, and watching Halloween themed movies. Halloween was always Joyce's favorite! Joyce's last night together included watching favorite T\/ show "Bones", eating lime chips and salsa, and immersing in her favorite hobby- facebooking with her 900 plus friends. Joyce and Shawn were able to
say "I love you" just before her passing.
Joyce will be missed by her husband Shawn, sister Kelly and her husband Scott, her mother Linda, several uncles including David & Jimmy, several aunts including Gaye and Marilyn and Betty, lovely niece Addison and nephew Dylan-children of Scott and Kelly, many cousins including Teneille Ripple, Trena Rouse, and Jerry Shockley among many others, and Grandmother Riddle. Joyce will also be missed by father & mother—in—law Roger and Kathy Friesen, brother-in law Travis Friesen and wife Dani, and many, many friends, cousins, and in—laws from Angleton, Stockdale, Somerset, Omaha, and throughout the country with whom Joyce connected online.
May God Bless you Joyce, and comfort all of the people who love you dearly, now and forever
