John Thomas Wilson, affectionately known as J.T., passed away on August 12, 2024. Born on February 1, 1972, in Detroit, Michigan, J.T. was a beloved son to William and Elena Wilson, and a cherished brother to Candace (Tony) Green, Clinton (Morgan) Wilson, and Cassie Wilson. He was a devoted husband to Michele Miville, a loving father to Austyn, Collin, and Jacob, Uncle to Trey Green, and a dear nephew to Wendy (Tim) Deal.
As part of a military family, J.T. moved frequently, living in St. Louis, Missouri; the Florida Keys; Guam; California; Iowa; Minnesota; Utah; Nebraska; and finally settling down in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
J.T. was a dedicated cook from the age of 17. He enjoyed shooting pool, attending car shows, going on road trips, camping, cooking, target shooting, bonfires with friends, and riding motorcycles. He loved Saturday morning breakfasts with his sister Candi, picking Jacob up from school and getting a treat together, and watching storms with Michele.
He was known for his sharp mind, witty sense of humor, protective nature, dedication to his family, strong work ethic, exceptional driving skills, mechanical aptitude, survival skills, and his ability cook a steak to the perfect temperature over an open flame in the dark.
He and Michele made a lifetime of memories in their 20 years together. They never hurt each other or took one another for granted, and they loved each other fiercely and unapologetically, through the obstacles and hardships. He also found immense joy in watching his son Jacob grow up and was Candace’s best friend and the best brother one could imagine.
J.T. was proud of his Palauan Heritage and dreamed of returning to Palau and reconnecting with his family there. Though he didn’t make it back, his adventurous spirit and love for life will always be remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Lake Manawa Shelter 4. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor and remember J.T.'s remarkable life.
