Jill Bobek and her twin, Jay, were born in Omaha. They lived on a block with over 50 kids and just a short walk from Dundee School… that was a perfect place to grow up. Her family built a new home way west, beyond where I-680 would be built. This was where Jill lived until she finished high school at Burke in 1977. She always enjoyed roller skating, bowling, and hanging out with her friends and pets.
Long weekends were spent at a family cabin on Hansen’s Lake, south of Omaha. The baby toads were her special friends. She would hide them in her purse to bring them home. Jill learned to drive the boat, swim, and ski on that lake. She would drive her dad’s boat with her giant Great Dane, Dandy, standing like a hood ornament in the bow. She learned to play all types of card games with her family on rainy days.
Jill loved all animals, so her bedroom was like a very clean zoo. Jill had stray kittens; guinea pigs that squealed until she fed them; a family of hamsters who ate through the sheetrock and could be heard running inside the kitchen soffits; as well as mice, fish, and turtles. Jill’s most memorable pet was Oscar, her huge fish with a hair-lip who loved to eat pieces of chicken liver. This love of animals continued through Jill’s life. If you ever visited her home, there were dogs, cats, fish, turtles and more there to keep you entertained.
While attending business college, Jill worked in a neighborhood bar where she made all kinds of lifelong friends and learned how to play pool. She loved to play in leagues with her girlfriends and even traveled to compete in tournaments. Later, she met Wayne there and knew he was a special guy. After they married, they moved into an old summer cabin on an acreage behind her parents. As their family grew, they built a new house on this site, and this was their forever home.
Jill had always loved baby-sitting little kids and organizing homes, so having Wayne, her two boys and a home of her own filled her life and heart. Jill was an amazing mother. Her two boys, Kyle and Kory knew she was always there for them and would do anything for them. She supported them in Scouts, bowling, sports, school activities, etc. She taught them how to be caring people and modeled it as she faithfully visited her mom at Parson’s House, delivered Meals on Wheels, and helped her many friends during times of need. Jill was also well known as the aunt who always remembered to send cards and boxes of fun stuff to her nieces and nephews for birthdays and Christmas.
Jill will be missed by her family, friends, and co-workers.
Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Dutch and Peg Oltmanns. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; sons, Kyle and Kory; granddaughter, Lily; siblings, Lynn Olson and Jay Oltmanns.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 1-2 pm, with a Memorial Service at 2 pm at Westlawn-Hillcrest.
