Jerry Jae Huebert, age 85, of Omaha, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Heritage Pointe Assisted Living. Jerry was born in Glasgow, MT to Jacob D. and Martha (Rahn) Huebert. He was raised on a farm in rural Lustre, MT with his sisters, Lorraine and Louise and brother, Donald. He was the oldest of the 4 children. Jerry was raised in a family of deep faith, serving God in their Mennonite community. Jerry accepted Christ as his personal savior at the age of 14 while attending a revival service at his church.
Following high school graduation from Lustre Bible Academy in 1956, Jerry worked for his dad on the farm and for other neighbors -- driving tractors, fallowing, hauling hay and other odd jobs. In lieu of military service, Jerry traveled to Alaska at the age of 21 and served for 2 years at the Minfield Children’s Home in Auke Bay. His room and board were his only payment for maintaining the buildings and helping to watch the boys at the home. He had many fun adventures during his two years in Alaska.
Prior to leaving for Alaska, Jerry met Dorothy at a wedding for mutual friends in Mountain Lake, MN. Dorothy “Dottie” moved to Calgary, Alberta to be a nanny, so she and Jerry corresponded by mail over the next 2 years. Jerry proposed to Dottie after her brother’s wedding and she accepted. When Jerry returned to Montana, he worked some odd jobs and then received an invitation from Dottie’s brothers to move to Omaha, NE and work at the Union Packing Company. Jerry and Dottie were married On July 11th, 1961 in Mountain Lake, MN.
Jerry and Dottie lived in Omaha. After leaving the packing house nearly 10 years later, he became a salesman for Bishop Business Equipment. Jerry had a very successful career with Bishops and won many sales awards and trips. In 1991, Jerry left Bishop Business Equipment; the industry was was going through a paradigm shift. Benson Transfer & Storage was his next employer. In December 2002, the company was sold to Select Van and Storage. Jerry worked for Select until his retirement in January 2013, at the age of 76.
Jerry enjoyed many hobbies with family and friends. He loved being outdoors; fishing, hunting, gardening and tending his lawn. He was always doing something and was rarely idle. Whenever possible he attended the school, music and sports events of his grandkids. He could be found playing with the grandchildren in the yard and down on the floor. Jerry was quick to help his sons anytime they had a home or yard project that needed done. He could always come up with some way to rig up a solution to a problem.
On weekends during his career years and throughout his retirement, you could always find Dottie at his side. He and Dottie had a marriage that is an example to many of how to remain individuals yet work toward a common goal. They had a lot of fun trips camping, driving, flying and cruising. They loved each other and encouraged each other for more than 60 years.
Jerry and Dottie joined the Omaha Gospel Tabernacle in downtown Omaha. Later the church moved to West Omaha and became Christ Community Church. They have faithfully attended and served there for over 60 years. Even when their health no longer allowed them to attend in person they would join the worship service through the internet live stream. Above all else, Jerry wanted his life to reflect God’s promise and love. He was a faithful son, husband, father and grandfather.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob D. and Martha (Rahn) Huebert; and sister Louise Goertzen. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Dirks Huebert; sons, Rodney (Jacalyn) Huebert of Des Moines, IA and Gerald (Jill) Huebert of Omaha, NE; sister, Lorraine Huebert of Glasgow, MT; Donald (Sue) Huebert of Canton, SD; brother-in law, Carl Goertzen of Beatrice, NE.
