James H. White

James (Jim) Herbert White, age 82 of LaVista, NE passed away Sunday September 10, 2017 at Hillcrest Shadow Lake in Papillion, NE. Jim was born December 2, 1934 in Atlantic, IA, the son of Roswell Leonard (Jim) and Clendora (Scarf) White. Jim attended school in Malvern, IA and enrolled in the Marine Corps at age 17 serving in the Korean War. Upon his return from service he started employment with Northwestern Bell and retired 35 years later from AT&T. He was united in marriage to Shirley Mullin September 15, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Holdrege, NE. In 1963 and 1966 Jim and Shirley became parents of Lisa and Jeff. Jim enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing, and Frank Sinatra music. Jim was known for his singing at music contests during his school years, March Breezes shows performed by members of Papillion St. Paul Methodist Church, and some family weddings. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Leo and Billie White; sisters: Maxine Norris, Lorraine Wendt, Norma Schultz, Ruth Scheel and Linda Foote. Survived by wife of 60 years, Shirley of LaVista, NE; daughter, Lisa (John) Baranishyn of Bellevue, NE; son, Jeff (Diana) White of San Diego, CA; grandchildren: Brian, James, Katie, and Hailey; great-grandchildren: Kopelan, Averee, Chase, and Damian; step grandchildren: Ben, Roman, Amber, Stephanie, and Jeff Jr. Also survived by brothers: John White of Red Oak, IA; Wayne (Ann) of Elkhorn, IA; Charles (Denise) White of Coin, IA; sisters: Bettie McCunn of Indianola, IA; Patricia (Jack) Williams of Glenwood, IA; Mary (Bob) Jones of Red Oak, IA; sister-in-law, Sally White of Omaha, NE; special family friend, Julia McGrew of Glenwood, IA; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A special thanks to the Hillcrest Shadowlake staff and Hospice care team for their compassionate care.

VISITATION: Wednesday, September 13th, from 4-8pm; SERVICE: Thursday, September 14th, 10am, both at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home. Memorials can be directed to the Alzheimer Association.
