Gregory is survived by his children, Deborah Anne (Minter) Cliff, Brian T. Minter, and David (Jennifer) Minter; step-children, Timothy J. Wiig, Rhea A. (Kris) Eitmann, and Jordanna F. Wiig; 8 grandchildren, Nancy (Dave) Randall, Kimberly (Joshua) Schmidt, James (Rebekah) Coffman, Bobbie Jo Cliff, Naomi Cliff, Jeremiah Cliff, Rachel (Geoffry) Leedom, and Aaron (Grace) Minter; 2 step-grandchildren, Lila A. and Kale A. Eitmann; 4 great-grandchildren, Lennon Schmidt, Marley Schmidt, Bellamy Coffman, and Milo Minter; first wife and longtime friend, Phyllis Minter; and many other close family and friends.
A proven leader in the profession of legal services, Greg began teaching in 1969 as an adjunct professor at the Creighton University School of Law, where he taught for nearly 40 years until 2005. He also parlayed his knowledge at the University of Nebraska College of Law where he taught for six years. He served as Presidential Board Member of Nebraska Continuing Legal Education Inc. as chairperson of both the curriculum committee and the publications committee. Mr. Minter was appointed by the Nebraska Supreme Court as a faculty member of the Nebraska Judicial College as well as the director and chairperson of the seminars committee. He also provided his expertise as a consultant for the U.S. Department of Justice and as a member of the Securities and Exchange Commission seminar faculty (29 years).
Supporting various local organizations, Greg was active as a board trustee and vice chairperson of the Second Unitarian Church of Omaha between 2015 and 2018. In previous years, he served on the board of directors and as the vice president, secretary and president of the Omaha Symphony Association. Greg was also the secretary and president of the Omaha Symphony Men's Council, a member of the Community Advisory Board of KVNO Public Radio Station, and president and a board director of the Omaha Ballet Society.
Greg received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree at the Municipal University of Omaha in 1964 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree at Creighton University in 1965. Upon graduation from the Creighton University School of Law, he was inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit Honor Society. Following his graduation from college and law school, he served to the rank of Captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve between 1967 and 1978.
Greg had been admitted to practice law by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Nebraska, the Supreme Court of Nebraska, the U.S. Court of Military Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States. To enhance his legal career, he had been a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association, where he held Emeritus status, the Omaha Bar Association and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He is also a lifetime fellow of the Nebraska State Bar Foundation, where he was bestowed with an Outstanding Legal Educator Award in 1997. Moreover, Greg was formerly active as a member of the House of Delegates of the Nebraska State Bar Association, where he served in his role between 1990 and 2012.
A memorial service for Gregory will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106. A private family burial will occur at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park, 5701 Center Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68106.
