Hamilton, Gladys (Dot) Mildred, Age 88, passed away on December 24, 2014. Born July 23, 1926, Dot grew up in various communities in Rhode Island, but spent the majority of her life in Omaha raising a family with her husband of 67 years, Dr. Charles (Doc) Hamilton. A bright, compassionate individual and an avid reader, Dot graduated with a double-major in biology and English from Ottawa University, Ottawa, KS, and had a long history of full-time and substitute teaching in the Omaha Public School system, including at South and Central High Schools. Like so many of her generation who grew up during the Great Depression, she understood the value of family and a good education. She also was a woman of faith, and was a long-standing, active member and deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. Her thoughtful, steadfast, and loving presence in the lives of her family was what bound them together and carried them through both the good, and sometimes tough, times. She placed family above all else and will be greatly missed.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Harry Robertson, brother Harry Robertson, Jr., and beloved son, Geoffrey Hamilton. She is survived by husband, Doc, who loved her dearly and was always at her side; daughters Carol Hamilton, Ruth (Allan) Hamilton Heese, and daughter-in-law Cynthia Hamilton; two grandchildren, Adam Hamilton and Mark (Laura) Hamilton; three cherished great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Emma, and Elsie Hamilton; sisters Elizabeth Holgate and Marie Mawby; and several other treasured family members and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015, from 11 am to 2 pm, Sunset Baptist Church, Omaha, NE. In lieu of flowers, Dottie's wish was for any memorials to be made to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association.
