George W. "PaPa" Smith was born on March 29, 1923 in Rural, Alabama; to the late William Alfred Smith and Lillie B. DeRamus. George "PaPa" gained his wings on Monday April 13, 2020 in Omaha, Nebraska.
George was raised in Prattville, Alabama on a little farm where he had to help with the feeding of the live stock and gathering of the morning eggs. His mom and dad ran a small cafe just a little ways down the road where he would work on the weekends.
Following Graduation in 1942 from Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama, he joined in the Armed Forces in 1943 and was stationed in Shelby,Mississippi. George then was Honorable Discharged in April where he served until 1945. George "PaPa" then moved to Omaha,Nebraska in 1948 where he married Eddie Mae Murph where they had three children; Mary, George Jr., and Rita. He then later married Inola Conley and her children; TC, Fred, and Georgia.
During the time George worked at University Hospital in the maintenance area where he later retired in 1984. George did a lot of traveling and attending the UNL football games where he was a regular season ticket holder. George would always make sure the family knew about all the Family Reunions that were held in his hometown of Prattville, Alabama.
He survived by Sister Stella Stewart, brother Foster Smith both of Flint, Michigan
Son George Smith and Daughter Rita Mitchell of Omaha , Nebraska. Grandchildren, Michaela Mitchell, Trisha Cribbs (Deion), Deametria McTizic (Thomas), all of Omaha, Nebraska. Rita Tiggs (Sylvester) of Dallas Texas. Floyd Brown, Sonja Brown, Marva Jean Smith, Georgia Smith -Crawford, Cynthia Flowers-Rhone, and George Flowers,Jr. all of Omaha,Nebraska. Preceding him in death, were his parents; wife Inola Smith, daughter; Mary Rose Brown,and granddaughter Shauntoy S. Brown. 41 Great Grandchildren, and 37 Great-Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and great long time friend/Army buddy James Tavern.
He leaves behind a Great Legacy of Love and Wisdom to his Family History.
