Barger, George W., Jr. (Rev., Dr.), died at Hospice House, Omaha, Nebraska on May 14, 2012. Born August 1, 1923 in St. Joseph, MO. George (Billy) met the love of his life, Helen Ross, after graduating high school in St. Joe. He and Helen were married on December 19, 1943. He then served in the Army Air Corps in WWII as a bombardier (33 missions). He became a Disciples of Christ minister (18 years), received his PhD in Sociology from Missouri University, taught at Elmhurst College for three years, then moved to UNO, where he remained until his retirement. He was ordained in the Episcopal church. serving as the assistant at All Saints and as priest and Canon at Trinity Cathedral. George had a love of music and played trombone in pit orchestras in all of his schools, lastly with the Intergenerational Orchestra. Preceded in death by his father, George Sr., mother, Freda, brother, Richard, and son, Ross. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen, daughters Freya, Beth Ann, and Marja (Barry Carlsen), sister, Helen Lee Uhl, grandchildren, Jason Knapp (Kelly), Vanessa (Ryan Hughes), Ryan and Seth Dudzinski, Carsten and Frieda Carlsen, and great grandchildren, Killian, Kai, Maxen, and Fiona, nephews, David (Lynne) Uhl, Greg (Sandy) Uhl and Larry (Lori) Uhl. Memorial services will be at Trinity Cathedral on Friday, May 25, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House and Trinity Cathedral. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for George, especially Hospice House, and the many friends and priests.
