Doris was born in Iowa and graduated from Simpson College in 1951. She married Vic Peterson, the love of her life. They lived, loved and built their careers in the Chicago area beginning in 1951. Doris found her “work home” at the law office of Baker & McKenzie in downtown Chicago. In 1990 they moved to Omaha to be closer to family. However, they did not slow down. Doris was a life-long member of, and active in, her local United Methodist Church. She was one of the original founders of Justice for Our Neighbors (a ministry to help refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants) and she was the first legal clinic volunteer. She felt it was the most significant thing she had ever done in the church.
Visitation will be Friday, January 12, 10 to 11 am with Funeral Service at 11 am at First United Methodist Church, 7020 Cass St., Omaha. Interment in Carson Cemetery, Carson, IA will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Westar Institute, westarinstitute.org, or Immigrant Legal Center + Refugee Empowerment Center, immigrantlc.org.
