On April 8, 2025 Don went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Don was born in Omaha, NE on October 31, 1930 to Guy and Helen (Hansen) Sillik. Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by the love of his life June (Harper) Sillik on December 4, 2014 after 52 years of marriage. Don was also preceded in death by brothers, Walter, Fred, Frank, Dale, and Jack Sillik; brother, James Brandt; sisters, Nellie Johnson, Doris Rocz, and Mary Marino.
Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1946-1952 spending time in both Germany and Japan. After serving in the army Don worked for Omaha Steel for awhile before working for himself in the hauling business up until his mid 70s. Don hauled bakery by products from Old Home/Metz for 40 plus years. Don also did contract work for the Missouri Pacific R.R. during the 1970's until the early 1980's. Ever since his discharge from the army Don has always raised livestock. Don and June moved to rural Crescent, IA in 1965 to raise their family.
During his time on the farm Don raised thousands of hogs and hundreds of head of cattle. Don had two goals in his life, first to love his wife and second to take care of his children. He excelled at both. Ever since moving to the farm, Don and his family attended Woodland Community Bible Church of which he was also a member.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Dona (Bruce) Homan, Barbara (Dave) Pahl, Cindy (Larry) Kiger, Donald (Lenore) Sillik Jr, and William (Jill) Sillik; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren with one on the way; brother, Louis Brandt; sisters-in-law, Addie Brandt and Mary (Dan) Swotek.
The family would like to thank the CNAs, Nurses, and staff at Bethany Lutheran Home for their loving care of our dad.
