Dan was born March 7, 1944 in Omaha. He graduated from his beloved Omaha North High School, where he returned to teach and coach for several years before moving to Michigan with his family to be a territory representative for Miracle Recreation. Later, he moved to Florida to run an asphalt paving company in Miami. He returned to Omaha, where he worked for Crouch Recreation until his passing. Dan was humbled and grateful to have received induction into the Vikings of Distinction last April, 2024. He will greatly miss his North Omaha South Omaha Boys breakfasts and get-togethers.
Dan had fought cancer bravely for over three years, and his wish was to be cremated. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held in May. Dignity Memorial is making the funeral arrangements, and services will be updated as they are scheduled.
Dan will be laid to rest at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park, where he will be buried alongside his father, Peter A. Sorensen; his mother, Helen I. Sorensen (Svengardt); and his brother, Lynn Sorensen, who, along with his brother, Peter Sorensen (California), have preceded him in death.
Dan is survived by his sons, Robert Sorensen (FL) and Kalvin Sorensen (FL); grandson, Robert Sorensen Jr. (FL and KY); and sister-in-law, Irene Sorensen (NE).
We would like to thank Andy and Stephanie Weissinger, the Crouch Family, Crouch Recreation, Irene Sorensen, and Keith Edquist, especially for their help and support throughout. In addition, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Josie Harper Hospice House, especially Nurse Bridgette, for being there during this difficult time.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at westlawnhillcrest.com for the Sorensen family.
