Daniel Joseph McMahon, 66, of Omaha NE, left this world on December 29th, 2024. Dan was surrounded by family and friends, who had gathered in his hospital room, to watch the Buffalo Bills beat the NY Jets one last time. After the game clock ran down, Dan opened his eyes for the first time in over a week, and unfortunately the last time, to gaze upon his wife, Rebecca McMahon, and took his last breath. Becky had forewarned everyone in the room that her husband and best friend wouldn’t leave this world until the Bills had won the game.
Born August 20, 1958, in Buffalo, NY, Dan was 1 of 5 children of Edward & Berenice McMahon, both of whom preceded him in the afterlife. He was raised in Buffalo with his brothers, Edward “Mick” (Trudy) McMahon, Jim (Rita) McMahon and sisters Pat (Dan) Bukaty, & Kathleen (Larry) Stokely. He was known as Uncle Dan to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Dan left home to join the Air Force and was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. He met and fell in love with Becky and they made a home in Omaha where they raised Nichole, Kelli & Joshua. Dan passed on his greatest traits to his children; working until the job is done and never giving up on family. Nichole married Jason and gave Dan & Becky their first grandkids, Kobe & Easton. Josh married Tamara, and added three more grandchildren, Hayden, Zoe & Daniel, completing the family that Dan cherished so much.
Dan was a fanatic of all things football. He loved the Buffalo Bills the most but would never miss a Nebraska Huskers or Omaha Beef game. Becky and Dan have been season ticket holders for the Omaha Beef since the team formed. They only missed games during Covid and even travelled with the team and their Beef family to celebrate their wins and commiserate their losses. They attended Husker games in Lincoln when possible but watched most games from home or at their favorite bar, C&K, with their good friends Pat and Sheila.
Dan would give the shirt off his back to help anyone he loved and often did. He touched so many people and aided many times of need. He always gave 110% and still somehow had 100% left to give to Becky and the rest of the family. We are better off now in his light. He was truly a great man who gave everything to this world and left nothing on his plate. But most of all, Dan loved his family and friends. He was an amazing husband, an excellent father and loving grandfather. His heart was so big and if you were lucky enough to know him, you were also blessed to feel his love. He will be sincerely missed, and the world will not be the same with him gone.
