Arrived home on September 29, 2018 in Omaha, NE. Born to Charles and Frances McGinness, Connie grew up in Cherryvale, Kansas. After high school graduation, she attended Kansas State University and received a BA (Home Economics- Interior Design - 1949). Upon graduation, she served with the American Friends Service League in Mexico City, Mexico. After a year, she secured a position as a County Extension Agent in Ulysses, KS, where she met her future husband, John Davis, who was a Civil Engineer for Northern Natural Gas Company. They married in 1952 and subsequently moved to Omaha. Connie earned a Masters in Deaf Education and Audiology at Omaha University (UNO) while her two daughters were still in grade school. Upon graduation, she taught at the Iowa and Nebraska Schools for the Deaf and then joined ESU #3 as a Field Audiologist. John and Connie were transferred to Liberal, KS where Connie worked for Kansas SSI as Manager of Homemaker Services for the elderly. Upon retirement, they moved to Green Valley, AZ where they spent 20 wonderful years together. They returned to Omaha 14 years ago to be closer to family.
Connie was also a 70-year member of P.E.O. (Charter Member, FY) and now enters Chapter Eternal. She was happiest when she was hunting through antique stores, rearranging furniture in her home or planning a party. She was continually supportive of and providing encouragement to her daughters to follow their dreams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles and Bill McGinness and her loving husband, John, of 63 years. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Dr. Libby Davis (Omaha) and Dr. Catherine Davis (Steve Scheffel) from Windsor, CO, and granddaughter Dr. Liz Scheffel (Memphis, TN).
Private family graveside services will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
A remembrance of Connie’s life will be held for family and friends on Friday, October 5th, at Aksarben Senior Living (ASL), 1330 South 70th Street, Omaha 68106 at 1:30pm and refreshments will follow (2:30-3:30pm). Flowers and cards can be sent to the family at ASL. Memorial donations should be directed to University of Nebraska Foundation for the John and Constance Davis Memorial Scholarship – Civil Engineering.
