Hamilton, Charles (Doc) Albert, MD, PhD, Age 92, passed away on August 19, 2017. Born November 17, 1924, Doc grew up in several communities throughout Iowa and Nebraska, as his father, Revered Charles Hamilton, ministered in American Baptist churches. After graduation from Blair High School in 1942, Doc -- a bright, charming, Midwest farm boy and preacher's kid -- served his country in World War II as a medic in the Army Air Corps, flying "The Hump" between Burma, China, and India. After returning to the states, marrying his college sweetheart, Gladys (Dot) Robertson, and finishing college at Ottawa University in Kansas, Doc received his Master's at UNMC, then moved onto Harvard Medical School. He returned to Omaha and UNMC where he received his Ph.D. in 1957. He went into private practice in Bismarck, ND, returning to Omaha in 1967. For roughly forty years, he provided cardiology and rehabilitative care to the Omaha community during his staff work and private practice with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Methodist Hospital, and Physicians Clinic in Regency. Later he was Director of Medical Rehabilitation at Methodist Midtown. He also co-founded the echo-cardiology lab at Methodist Hospital. A man of deep religious faith, Doc was dedicated to his family. He had a good -- sometimes mischievous -- sense of humor and enjoyed time with friends and family. His pastimes included painting, fishing, and golfing. He helped forge many family memories of camping trips and excursions at Lake Panorama, near Panora, Iowa. Doc was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Charles and Ruth Hamilton; his wife of 67 years, Gladys (Dot) Hamilton; siblings Phyllis, Edwin, Robert, and Paul, and beloved son, Geoffrey Hamilton. Survived by daughters Carol Hamilton, Crofton, MD, Ruth (Allan) Hamilton Heese, Masonville, CO, and daughter-in-law Cynthia Hamilton, Omaha; two grandsons, Adam Hamilton and Mark (Laura) Hamilton; four cherished great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Emma, Elsie and Reid Hamilton all of Omaha; other treasured family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 26, 2017, 10 am - 2 pm, Sunset Hills Baptist Church, Omaha, NE. In lieu of flowers, Doc's wish was for any memorials to be made to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association.
