Arthur D. Leach, Jr. (Art) was born on August 9, 1919 in Atkinson, in Holt County, Nebraska to Arthur D, Leach, Sr. and Ann Jungman Leach. Art was joined by two sisters, Phyllis Kempster and Betty Barkow, and a brother John. He was graduated from North High School and began work as a stock clerk for Wright and Wilhelmy Co., a wholesale hardware firm. During World War II he served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps. He married Dean Snyder in 1943 and after the war returned to his job, attending night classes at Creighton University. He became vice president, treasurer, and a member of the board of directors at Wright and Wilhelmy Co. until in retired in 1984. He was a member of Masonic Covert Lodge 11 in Omaha for over 60 years.
Dean and Art had two children, Evelyn and Edward. After Dean died Art married Katherine “Kitty” Bray, a widow with a son, Thomas, in 1956. Art and Kitty had a daughter, Laura. After Kitty died Art married Marian Meier in 1986. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Phyllis. Survivors include his daughters Evelyn Leach and Laura Oehring, his son Ed, grandchildren Elizabeth Hancock, Melissa Moser, Meredith Dierking, and Timothy Oehring, and a great-grandson Owen Hancock.
Also surviving him are step-children Richard Meier, Kenneth Meier, and Kathy Meier Morris, eight step-grandchildren, and seven step-great grandchildren. Photography, both with still cameras and video, was a prominent interest in his life. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and being with his family for celebrations.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in the Community Room at Pacific Springs Village, 805 So. 173rd Court, on October 18 at 2:00 pm. Memorials are suggested to the Omaha Home for Boys.
