I only recently found out about Dr. Moed passing. I was looking for his contact info to send him a card. 
Thank you so much Dr Moed for treating me so well back at Detroit Receiving.  It was my husband first year of residency and he told me you were the best.
I walk today as if nothing ever happened.  I was probably today your most complex reconstruction.
Any orthopedist I have seen today to seize my x-rays asked immediately who did the procedure and how impressive it is with the hardware. 

The world has lost one of the most talented surgeons.

I am a past patient of Dr. Moed.  I am only finding out of his passing today. I am heart broken. I think of him everyday because I look at my leg everyday.  Every time I talk about my knee, Dr. Moed's name is always part of the conversation and it happened again this morning.  In the mid 90's, while he was practicing through Henry Ford, he put me back together like humpty dumpty. A literal 'ton' of material fell on my leg, destroying my knee and fracturing my lower leg. I saw several orthopedic surgeons in Metro Detroit trying to figure out how to 'fix' me.  Dr. Moed's name kept popping up in these appointments and many said, "he would be the only one to operate on me if they were in my shoes, with my injury." A call to UofM AA confirmed that he was the doctor to fix me, Unfortunately, Dr. Moed was not taking new patients at the time, so I made an appointment with his colleague.  After an exam and x-rays, this colleague left the room, walked back in with someone and said, "Kelley, this is Dr. Moed, he will be your doctor and will be doing your surgery." And the rest is history. He rebuilt my knee and lower leg. Then around 2018, I fell very hard on this same knee and saw a doctor in Chicago to insure none of my screws and plates didn't come loose in the fall. He asked me, "who did this beautiful work?" I said, "Dr. Moed." He replied, "I know him, he is my friend and we are going on a trip in October." He called Dr. Moed during my appointment. Dr. Moed remembered me and I told him to say hi! It made me smile! This only shows that he was a respected, well known and talented doctor, surgeon and friend. He treated me like his daughter during my ordeal. I owe my leg to him! Thank you again Dr. Moed for saving my leg. I will never forget you. May you rest in Peace.  My deepest condolences and prayers to his family, friends and colleagues.

I can’t believe it.  Dr. Moed is the reason I am walking around today.  I’ll never forget you were supposed to leave for vacation and my 4 hr surgery

Dr. Moed was a big supporter and played a large role in the St. Louis Orthopedic Society during his time here at St. Louis University.  He was instrumental in bringing many renowned guests to St. Louis for lectures and discussions.  He always challenged the residents to think in different and creative ways.  Dr. Moed encouraged innovation and individualism while having a strong understanding of those who had lead before.  He always treated everyone with the utmost respect.  His impact cannot be overstated and he will be dearly missed.

My brother who lives in India and at that time was 44 years old when he was involved in a serious accident with  a truck. He and his family were in critical condition and he was in the hospital for  a complicated fracture of the femur for 
a few months.
He also consulted the best medical facility in New Delhi but despite all the treatment by the orthopedic surgeons he was not able to walk & was bed ridden.

At that time  I consulted  my friend Dr. Kevin Sprague and he highly recommended Dr. Moed for his expertise in trauma & fracture of acetabulum.
I advised my brother to come to USA for Dr. Moed's consultation & possible  revision surgery on August 1988.
The moment we met Dr. Moed in Detroit we were highly impressed with his confidence and optimism. He made us feel very comfortable & we liked him right away.

He underwent successful surgery and after intensive physical therapy was able to ambulate without any support after  only  one month.
 My brother feels that he would have been a cripple for rest of his life had he not been under care of Dr. Moed.

We all had deep desire to meet Dr. Moed again and thank him personally as there are some very rare people you meet in life you can  ever  forget for what they mean to you.
He virtually gave a life  back to my brother
& was the living God who answered all our prayers.

We are deeply saddened to know about Dr. Moed's passing away and and he would remain in our heart for ever.
May his memories be of comfort to all of you  in  the the family.

Dr. Moed was my Orthopaedic physician from 1986-1990 due to a severe pedestrian accident my husband and I were in at the State Theater on Woodward in Detroit. He was my trauma doctor while at the DMC in Detroit and afterwards.  He was a very kind, caring and funny man.  I enjoyed him and he took good care of me.
I was just seen by another Orthopaedic physician who told me of his passing.  Just realized our birthdays were a few days apart and one year.
So  sorry for your loss Mrs. Moed and family.  God bless all of you.

Just today I was discussing one of the many pearls of wisdom that Roy passed on to me many years ago at Detroit Receiving Hospital during our tense morning rounds.  Having just learned of his passing I am saddened but so grateful to have had the opportunity to train under him and see his passion, meticulousness, and dedication first hand.   Without him I would not be the person, doctor, or surgeon that I am today.  Dr. Moed, you will be missed. 

Dr. Moed was in inspiration for me and other physicians pursing a career in academic medicine. His passion for education, his dedication to his patients and faculty, and his love for his family have had a profound influence on me and many others. Roy, you will be missed but never forgotten.

Dr. Moed was a true leader. He saw in people what others did not and sometimes what people didn’t even see in themselves. He was a fierce advocate of the under represented in Orthopaedic Surgery. I am so thankful for his willingness to take me on and train me into a surgeon. My hope and prayer is that he knew just how many lives and careers he touched and how many life paths he changed for the better. Dr. Moed, thank you for taking a chance on me and for cultivating a spirit in the department of taking care of the patient as a priority above all else.  My condolences to those that loved him most; Jill, Lisa, Becky and families may his memory always be a blessing. 

I was fortunate to have had Roy as my senior partner and mentor for over 28 years.  In addition to his brilliant Orthopaedic acumen, he was  just a master of  people skills, charming, engaging , humorous, and extremely kind.  When he first  recruited me, he talked to me a few times to gauge my interest.  What I didn't know until later was that he had somehow found out what my surgery and  call schedule was at the time when  I was in Cleveland.  When I wasn't home he would call my wife  to tell her repeatedly how great it would be for us to join him working in Detroit.  He also chatted  up life in Detroit and its environs and especially talked fondly about his family.  When I eventually told my wife that I really didn't think I wanted to go to Detroit...she told me " You at least have to go and interview....as I have talked to Dr. Moed many times and he seems like a great guy , the job sounds like it would be a perfect fit...and he is able to have a great family life......."  ..Well, the rest is history.  This was  the first of many brilliant moves that I witnessed first hand during my time with Roy.....He truly was the launching pad for my career and was the biggest influence on my approach to orthopedic Trauma.  His inspiration is indelible and will go on forever as he touched many, many, faculty, residents , fellows and med students.  They may not remember me ...but they will certainly remember Roy!   Truly the end of a great era!

The passing of Dr. Moed seems surreal to me; as one of his many residents he seemed larger than life. But boy, did he whip a bunch of us into strong surgeons. He was the only person to offer me a chance to be an orthopaedic surgeon, changing the course of my life and career forever. I think (or at least hope) he knew how much that meant and continues to mean to me. Rest well, BRM; you live on in many, many memories.

Dr. Moed was an exceptional human being. Hip impingment was a new subject for Radiologists , he thought me about it and arranged for me to go to another Radiology department in Reno, NV to learn to read hip impingement MR studies. He completely gave a new face to the Orthopedics department and the residency program at SLU. He had great wisdom and shared it with younger faculty. He was a great mentor and I would always look up to him for advice. His early passing is a big loss for the SLU community. My deepest condolences to Jill and whole family.

Dr. Moed was always a gentleman to me. We first crossed paths years ago when I was a resident and he was a medical student. Decades later our paths crossed again when my life returned me to the St. Louis area and he was Chairman of the orthopaedic department. He was kind enough to allow me to work at SLU. I will always have fond memories of him and Jill. May God bless him and keep him.

Roy was a true advocate for his department and SLU School Medicine.  He spoke his mind, but was always willing to share his experience  and knowledge.  Rest in peace Roy!


Dr. Moed was Chairman of Orthopedics when I became interim Chair of ObGyn. He was a wealth of knowledge about SLU and managing a dept. He was never afraid to voice his opinion and his thoughts and ideas were helpful to newbies like me. 
My sympathy to his family. So sad to go too early after a life of dedication to patients, and his craft. 

Roy was an outstanding person and chairman. During my years as the medical school dean we met on many occasions to discuss his vision for Orthopaedic Surgery at SLU and his views of  the med school at large. Because Roy and Jill still kept a place in NYC and my wife Marj and I had lived and worked in the NYC area for many years , Roy and I also would talk about NYC.  Roy  was pragmatic , tough and wise. I was pleased  that he was willing to continue as chair even when he no longer could operate. He could still lead his team , though , and did it well. Marj and I extend our condolences to Jill and to the Moed family. Roy left a legacy of excellence at SLU and will be missed.  Phil Alderson

Dr. Moed was a strong, energetic leader for the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Saint Louis University.  He advanced the residency program to a national level of recognition while expanding it in the number of residents and faculty.  The department rose to new heights of academic excellence and achieved recognition for its increased research productivity. His commitment to the Orthopaedic Surgery Department was unwavering. Our condolences to his family and friends. Roy will be missed very much.
