November 23, 1953 to November 29, 2024
With love & remembrance we honor the life of Val Joe Pereira who went to his heavenly home on November 29, 2024. He was 71 years old.
He was born in Michigan, but once he had lived in the South, he liked the South’s winters better than Michigan’s. He recently retired from Wholesale Pump and Supply where he worked in parts sales.
He had a passion for adventure which drew him to join the Navy in his younger days. He joined the Patriot Guard Riders to honor his fallen brothers and sisters almost 10 years ago, assuring they had the honor in death they had earned. In later life he loved to travel with his wife Donna where they would explore various parts of the country and would venture to places like Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon, Sturgis, SD, Jackson Hole, WY, Santa Fe, NM and Deadwood.
Val and Donna were married for 33 years. They had an unique meeting where they started talking in line at an ATM in Memphis and the rest, as they say, is history. They welcomed a son, Robert (Bobby) Pereira ten years later.
An avid hunter, he spent several years as part of Shady Grove hunting club in Kosciusko, MS.
Val was preceded in death by his mother Carol Steager and his brother JR Pereira.
Val is survived by his father, Ralph Pereira and his wife Margaret (Peggy) Pereira of Savannah, GA, his sister Colann Main (Cliff) Kirkwood, MO, his sister Susan Pereira of Columbia MO, a daughter Wendi Elrod of Arlington, TN and two granddaughters, Kaeyln and Kalli, as well as 3 nieces, a nephew and numerous cousins.
Services will be held at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch, MS on Tuesday, December 10th at 12:30pm with burial to follow at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Visitation will begin at 11:30am. May the memories of Val be an eternal blessing for those that were fortunate to know and love him.
