Sean was a fourth generation painter. His great grandfather went door to door during the depression offering to paint a room for $5.00 to support his family. When Sean’s grandfather, Frank Walker, returned from WW2, he also became a painting contractor and later sold paint for United Paint. He mentored Sean.
Sean went to Memphis State to become a lawyer, but life intervened and he followed the family tradition. Sean took pride in his work and enjoyed making the old look clean and new again. He would take furniture others had thrown out and use his skill to make over in his own eclectic style. He did lovely faux finish work and was mentioned in Midsouth magazine. “Local artist Sean Loftin painted the ceiling with a stencil. He gold-leafed and hand painted the inside of the design. He also painted the ceiling medallion, giving a dramatic result.”
Sean loved midtown, the older homes, each one different and unique and the lovely tall trees even if they made him sneeze. He was born in Memphis on a snowy Christmas day and except for a brief time lived there his whole life.
Sean was kind and loved animals. He had several cats during his life, notably Bonzo and Stinky. Recently he got Jupiter, a golden retriever who brought Sean much comfort and he loved him very much.
Sean leaves behind Jupiter, his mom Shirley Jean Dobler, stepfather Robert Dobler, who loved him as a son, step siblings John, Tom and Laurie Lamar, aunts, Jerry Roach, Pat Cooper, Linda Walker and Cindy Walker as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. We will all miss him.
A memorial will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dan and Gina Mickiewicz, 1897 Corbin Germantown, TN 38139. Donations in Sean's name can be sent to

My Testament Dec. 4, 2023
By Sean Rourke Loftin
The Lord visited me this night as I lay in the bed.
He visited me with miracles.
He opened my heart.
He restored my music to me.
I began to hear a new song in my head.
I felt my family in my heart.
“Thank you Father thank you” I said.
“How may I serve you Father? For I am your child”
And I heard my own voice in my mind,
a scrap of lyric from a song I wrote 25 years ago.
Lyrics
“Sometimes I wonder why I survived.
God put me here to document the times.”
Yes Father.
I am your witness.
I am your child.
I am here to document the times.
And I heard the beat of the Angels wings.
And I heard the beat of the Angels wings.
And his spirit filled me in His holy light.
I went outside in the snow,
Stood barefoot in the snow,
Grounding myself to the earth.
The Lord’s energy filled me.
And I pledged myself to his task.
And I heard the beat of His angels wings.
And I heard the beat of His angels wings.
I am the servant of God.
I am His witness.
I hear the beat of angle wings.
And I answer His call.
Glory be to God on high.
Glory be to Jesus.

Of Time and Space
By Sean Rourke Loftin
There are no constants in creation.
Gravity (attraction) is the primal force,
Spacetime is but an imposition upon this first force,
and, as such, is relative in its created nature.
Caste in flesh, the human condition;
spacetime is divided in our perception.
space separates as time pulls.
Moving swiftly,
pulling us inexorably forward;
the past only a memory,
the future yet a dream.
There is only the now.
Live in the now, and let the moment be all.
Otherwise, the vastness of experience might well consume you,
as the stars sometimes do, when we gaze on them at night.
A moment only, to remember what was.
A moment more, dreaming of what will be.
Remembering the girl that once you were,
dreaming of the woman that, one day,
you will become.
Return to the now;
Gazing at your reflection,
I know what you will see:
That the woman you are
is still as beautiful
as the child ever was.
That the knowledge of years
has lent wisdom to your eyes.
That the dreams
of what will come
bring a smile to your lips.
Enjoy the moment...
For that is all this life offers;
a series of moments,
strung one to the next.
moments of happiness,
moments of sorrow-
We grow our souls
hoping against hope-
that we live not in vain.
Caste in flesh,
time and space become barriers.
time is fleeting, distances seem too far-
Even so,
Attraction remains the primal force.
If there is space in your heart
there will always be -
- time enough for love-
You are always in my heart
I love you
