Mel R. Polivka, 79, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018 in Germantown, TN. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1938, Mel attended Lincoln and Rhodes High School. He worked in early years as an Operator Foreman for Hattenforf-Bliss. After that, Mel spent 20 years working at Northwest Airlines in Cleveland, San Francisco and Memphis on the ramp. He retired in 2000 and became an avid golfer and was a member at Olive Branch Country Club where he had a double eagle on the 18th hole. In May he celebrated 40 years of marriage to the love of his life, Noni. Mel is survived by his wife, Noni Polivka; four children, Daniel Polivka, Elaine Wood, Laura Sommerstorfer, and Jennifer Faulk. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Austin Polivka, Shane Polivka, Haley Sommerstorfer, Alaina Sommerstorfer, Chase Wood, Hunter Wood and five great grandchildren. Family will receive guests on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with the service to immediately follow at 10:00 am at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. Burial will follow at Autumn Woods Cemetery in Olive Branch, MS.
