Glendon Norman Coombs, Sr., 79, of Byhalia, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Mr. Coombs was born on May 23, 1945, in Fairfield Township, New Jersey, to the late George Coombs and Erma Durham Coombs. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Coombs. He is survived by his life partner and companion of many years, Bonnie Winter; son, Glendon N. Coombs, Jr. (Elissa); daughter, Janet Spence (Robert); son, Brian Coombs; son, Salvatore Coombs (Kelly); daughter, Stacy Fortuna (Jason); grandchildren: Jordan Harper, Madison Coombs, Gabriella Coombs, Brianna Brittain (Andrew), Jacqueline Spence, Robert Spence, Arianna Coombs, Cali Coombs, and Jalyn Fortuna; great-granddaughter, Chandler Ihrie; siblings: Shirley Durham, Doris Coombs, Leslie Coombs, Erma Urgo, Donna Teti, Carl Lee Coombs, and Joanna Martin; and his beloved dog, Buddy. Mr. Coombs worked as the maintenance and grounds supervisor for Kingsway Regional High School in New Jersey from 1979 until his retirement in 2006. He loved his job at the school, and he was loved by the students and staff. In his final weeks, he found great comfort and joy in reading the many notes and memories that were sent to him by the Kingsway community. He was a life-long farmer on the family farm. He was a problem solver, loved to tinker on anything that needed repair, and could find a solution to most anything. He was no stranger to hard work. In his free time, he enjoyed being near the water, boating, and fishing. The family will receive friends for a memorial gathering at Brantley Funeral Home on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 4:00 until 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in his honor to Kingsway Regional High School, which will use the donations to create a tribute on the high school grounds so that Mr. Coombs will always be remembered on the campus that meant so much to him. You can make donations online at www.krsd.org/KEFDonate or by mail to Kingsway Education Foundation, ATTN: Susan Vance – In memory of Glendon Coombs, 213 Kings Highway, Woolwich Township, NJ 08085.
