Dorothy “Dot” Lee Curtis King, 87, of Horn Lake, Mississippi was received into the loving arms of Jesus November 7, 2023 surrounded by family after a short illness. Dot was born in Oxford, Mississippi to the late Ancil and Lucile White Curtis. She graduated from French Camp Academy. After graduation she attended Rebel Cosmetology School and became a licensed cosmetologist.
She faithfully served the Lord and was a devoted long-standing member of Boulevard Baptist Church. She had a heart for children and dedicated many years to teaching and caring for children in the church nursery and volunteering at Vacation Bible School and other church ministries. She enjoyed canning vegetables, flower gardening, quilting, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored.
Dot is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Travis King, her children Donna Bayless (Mike), Curtis King and Scott King (Candace) and her sister Alma Pund. She was Granny to four grandchildren Justin Bayless (Lauren), Colby Bayless, Preston King, Harrison King and three great-grandchildren, Will, Emersyn and Brooks Bayless. She also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister Ann Curtis and brother Samuel Curtis as well as her stepmother, Gladys Mitchell Curtis who raised her.
Visitation will be Friday, November 10, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum Road, Olive Branch, Mississippi 38654. Friends and family will gather Saturday, November 11 at New Haven Baptist Church, 6690 Stewart Weir Road, Weir, Mississippi 39772. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., a celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m. with interment immediately after at New Haven Cemetery.
Lasting memorials in Dot’s memory may be gifted to the charity of the donor’s choice.
