William E Plummer

Bangor and Milford - William E. 'Bill' Plummer, Sr., 67, passed away at Maine Veteran's Home in Bangor, October 7, 2017, following a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). He was born in Bangor, January 4, 1950, son of Carleton L. and Eileen F. (McCann) Plummer.

Bill served in the US Army as a cook, with tours in both Vietnam and Korea. He was a member of the American Legion Post #75, Old Town; a life member of VFW Post #3381; as well as AmVets Post #9, where he held many seats, including Commander. He also held a seat at the Old Town Elks Lodge, BPOE #1287. Bill worked for Eastern Fine Paper and Pulp in Brewer until his onset of MS.

Bill was predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Geneva (Commeau) Plummer of Milford; and his recently deceased stepson, Gary McGregor of Milford. He is survived by two sons, William E. Plummer, Jr. of New Hampshire, and Travis Anderson of Bangor; three brothers, Donald of Old Town, Thomas of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Timothy of Poland, ME; three sisters, Carlene of Monroe, NJ, Sherry of Orono, Kathie of Searsmont; as well as three stepsons, Bernie Lynch of Veazie, and Ricky McGreger of Brewer. Bill's family wishes to thank the staff of both Maine Veteran's Home and Beacon Hospice for the wonderful care they provided. Bill would also like to extend thanks to the friends and family that came to visit him at the home.

Bill very much enjoyed playing cards, horseshoes and was always ready to play a hand of cribbage. He was known around Maine Vet's Home as the "Candyman" for always supplying the patients and staff with sweets. Bill was an avid sports fan and seemed most happy when football season rolled around and he could enter into the many football pools. He enjoyed time spent at his home in Milford with his many barbeques in the backyard with family and friends.

Relatives and friends may call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. Graveside committal with military honors will be held 10 a.m. Friday, October 13, at Milford Cemetery, Milford. Continued conversation and refreshments will be held at the American Legion, 75 S.
